Teacher & Future Leader
For as long as I could remember all I wanted to be was a teacher. Looking back, this decision came from being influenced by my past teachers, and my upbringing. I grew up in a family of educators; teachers, counselors, coaches, and it taught me how to behave and it showed me how much time and effort could be put into your family with that type of career. In addition, my past teachers made sure to make me feel comfortable, safe and enjoy learning. I was able to grow to be the person I am today because of them. My leadership philosophy centers around the idea that it is difficult for learning to happen when there is a lack of the basic needs of individuals being satisfied. Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (1943) guides my purpose by ensuring that I am meeting the needs of the individuals I am in charge of and helping them rise to their full personal potential. After all, I believe that the purpose of education is to help each and every individual grow to be a successful human being in society.
My dream of becoming a teacher came true four years ago. I have worked in secondary inclusion education as a teacher, sponsor, and coach. Who knew being a teacher consisted of the kids teaching me something new everyday too? Middle school age is a difficult time for a lot of students, they are trying to find the right paths to take while enduring a lot of temptations. By the grace of God I am doing His work by being a healthy role model, guiding them in the right direction.
Since entering the education field, I have wanted nothing more than to further my education and become a future leader of a school. My goal is to gain professional education knowledge and experience throughout my time in the educational leadership and administration program, so that I can become the best leader for my students, colleagues, and community of the district I work for in the future. I believe the best way that I can demonstrate my philosophy of education is to model my servant leadership style by consistently showing love, honor and respect in the way that I interact with the students, parents, and community.
